COMPANY HISTORY
Refine Technology was founded in 1999 with a vision to bring to the biopharmaceutical market cell separation systems that allow for increased productivity of cell derived biopharmaceuticals. Refine soon introduced its patented ATF™ System which is now being used in the development and manufacturing facilities of many biological and pharmaceutical companies.
The ATF System, originally designed to improve continuous culture processes, has been successful in applications as diverse as cell banking, virus production and microcarrier processes.
The company, based in New Jersey, USA, about half an hour from Newark Airport, has worldwide sales and technical support through a network of distributors. |

Jerry Shevitz, President and Chief Research Officer
Jerry Shevitz, Ph.D. received his degree from CUNY, New York , N.Y., subsequently focusing on cell biology and Immunology. Jerry has an extensive background in the biomanufacturing industry, from small scale research and process development to large scale process development, with companies involved with drug development and with equipment suppliers. Jerry is a productive inventor always looking for improved solutions and new approaches. He is President of the company heads the Refine research department.
Sol Genauer, Vice President and Chief Operating Officer
As a partner in the corporate department of a Philadelphia based national law firm, Sol provided innovative and practical solutions to the myriad business issues facing his clients. Sol’s practice focused primarily on mergers and acquisitions, capital formation and partnering opportunities for clients in the heath care and pharmaceutical industries. Armed with insight gained from such industry representations, Sol is now running operations at Refine while also responsible for the activities of the quality and legal departments.
Edi Eliezer, Vice President, Engineering and Projects
Edi’s in-depth and diversified experience include R&D, Manufacturing, Process Engineering, Technology Transfer, Facility Design, Project Engineering & Management and consulting in the Biotechnology industry in sectors such as BioPharmaceuticals, Nutritionals, Biofuels & Biochemicals. While at Abbott, CPC and DuPont, Edi achieved successful bioprocess development, scale-up and commercial manufacturing for various fermentations, including specialized bioreactor designs and integrated downstream processing. He further expanded his career working in world-class engineering, consulting & construction companies such as Raytheon, John Brown–Kvaerner & Fluor, by leading and managing various projects involving feasibility studies, conceptual design, engineering and validation of R&D, clinical and commercial manufacturing facilities for the biotechnology industry.
John Bonham-Carter, Vice President, Sales & Business Development
The first business John founded was a free-ads newspaper in the south of France, called Annonces Vertes. After a period with a satirical political magazine in London, the Insider, he moved into the family business of fermenter manufacturing (his grandmother started LH Engineering Ltd many years ago). John joined the start-up company Adaptive Biosystems as Sales Director and also managed the R&D department – winning a government award for introducing AI into fermentation prediction and control. He worked with facility design & build company W H Promation, before founding Magellan Instruments and it’s Scandinavian subsidiary. John co-organised ESACT 2005 and ESACT 2009. |
