The ATF™ System was principally used for many years in upstream processes such as perfusion and high cell density continuous cultivation. The process choice had therefore between a traditional fed-batch and another more productive mode instead.
The renewed interest in modern options in biomanufacturing, led by the drive towards single use technologies, means that the ATF System is being evaluated and many times already employed in different ways to improve and simplify processes. The ability to be able to plug the system into existing tanks or bags, or to retrofit bioreactor labs, with minimal cost lends itself to rapid project execution.

Which areas of your process train would most benefit from the advantages of the ATF System?
We recommend first looking at the low hanging fruit which will bring the biggest rewards with the least disruption and cost to your facilities. Generally this is the final production bioreactor where you can rapidly show a 5-10 fold increase in cell concentration. It may be in seed expansion or cell banking. Possibly you have existing problems with filter fouling in a primary recovery step or experience scaling difficulties with your current ultrafiltration / diafiltration (UF/DF) rig.
In our brief article on Process Comparisons you can read about the main differences for a cell culture process when utilizing an ATF System.
We welcome a confidential discussion with you about your existing or planned process and will be happy to advise where we think our products and technology can bring you the quickest benefits. A series of small scale lab tests can discover the extent of the gains you can make and can also provide the initial data to understand the impact at the large scale. This means you can make a rapid decision to move forwards with the technology in that area, or to test further in other steps.
